My ground coffee is in an airtight container. Where should I store it? I have heard that it is best to put it into my freezer, or should I keep it on the counter or in my refrigerator?
Answer:
Well, I would prefer if you bought the whole beans and then grind just enough to use for the freshest coffee. But I fully understand that sometimes you just don't have the time to do that, or you ground a bit extra.
Where to store your ground coffee depends on how long you expect to store it. If you plan to use it all within a week, and you have an air tight contaner (really...it must be sealed tightly) you can just sit the container on your countertop or in a cupboard.
But if you expect to keep your ground coffee longer than a week, you should keep the extra supply in your freezer. Be sure to keep it in a tightly sealed container there, too. Then as you need the coffee, you can pour enough into your kitchen container to set out for a few days. That keeps you from having to run to the freezer every time you brew coffee.
If you follow my advice and buy whole beans, I suggest that you keep the whole beans in the freezer (in an airtight container) and grind what you'll need for one or two days at most.
Because of the high moisture contents, you should never put your whole beans or ground coffee into the refrigerator.
